How can it be that summer solstice has already occurred? This means, we can intentionally choose to soak up every ounce of summer & embrace the season meant to offer more opportunities for respite, joy, & connection. Whether you have zero plans or alllll the plans, we are here to offer some simple wellness to practice throughout this glorious month of J U L Y.

JULY WELLNESS INTENTION 1: MORNING BREATHING… 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Like we mentioned before, summer is meant to offer more opportunities for respite, joy & connection. Let’s start with ourselves & the first opportunity we have when our eyes begin to open, each day. This wellness intention can be done straight from the comfort of your cozy bed (and can also be done outdoors or in another area you love).

HOW TO: Upon waking up, give yourself the gift of slow, intentional inhales and exhales. Count down for 5 full breaths, it’s THAT simple. Bonus: once finished with 5 breaths, count up 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 for an extra gift of respite, joy & connection to yourself.

JULY WELLNESS INTENTION 2: Hydration Station, yes please!

Do you have a favorite water bottle that reminds you to hydrate? For G+G founder, Caitlin, that favorite water bottle has been a 32 ounce mason jar for 10+ years! Do yourself the incredible act of kindness and invest in your own hydration station — aim to drink at least half your body weight in ounces, each day (of water). For example, if your weight is 150 pounds, you’re aiming for 75+ ounces of water! Summer time can be sneaky with dehydration, so be mindful and drink up!

Here are some of our favorite personal hydration stations :)

  • 32oz. Mason Jars (disclaimer, not recommended for those apt to dropping fragile items & does not fit in car cup holder)

  • Swell Sips (not only does this look like a water bottle fit for the Queen Beyoncé, it is good for you AND the environment!)

  • Owala Freesip (passes the $1 rule, you will definitely use this 27 times!)

  • Klean Kanteen (safe for people & the planet)

HOW TO: Fill that water bottle & drink on up, repeat until you’ve hit your ounce goal, friends!

JULY WELLNESS INTENTION 3: Offer compassion to yourself & others

Sometimes summer isn’t all fun & games, more time together without routine or schedule can sometimes lead to unintended stress, tension & feelings of being let down. If you find yourself feeling this way towards yourself or your loved ones, give yourself an opportunity to revert into July Wellness Intention 1 & take a few deep inhales, exhales. Offer yourself a chance to think about what has got you feeling stressed, tense or let down & instead of being harsh with yourself or others, lean into this growth of self-compassion.

HOW TO: When you notice the stress, tension or let down, take a few deep inhales, exhales, or what experts like to call a ‘pause moment’. From this pause, utilize a compassionate statement offered here:

  • I’m noticing I feel stressed & I can meet myself with curiosity, not judgement in this moment. What may be leading to this feeling of stress? What is a possible next step I can take to address it healthfully?

  • I feel anxious this morning. I can recognize that being out of routine can bring about unexpected anxious feelings for me.

  • I am experiencing feelings of let down over how the summer seems to be slipping by. What can I do to care for myself & embrace all the summer I do have left? (*helpful tip here, make a feasible list of experiences/things you want to do and go for it!)

JULY WELLNESS INTENTION 4: EXPERIENCE LIGHT-HEARTED JOY!

This one sounds like a no-brainer but we truly must lead with intention when it comes to experiencing joy! The benefits for your health and those in your orbit are astounding, we’ll leave it to the experts at Mental Health America to share more with you here.

HOW TO: Determine what brings you joy and GO FOR IT. And, while you’re going for it be sure to laugh it up, friends, laugh it up!

In our opinion, joy is the fountain of youth :)

Here are 4 Wellness Intentions for the month of July:

INTENTION 1: MORNING BREATHING… 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 — inhale, exhale down from 5

INTENTION 2: Hydration Station, yes please! — Hydrate half your body weight in ounces daily

INTENTION 3: Offer compassion to yourself & others — pause before reacting, respond with compassion instead

INTENTION 4: EXPERIENCE LIGHT-HEARTED JOY! — self explanatory, have fun people!
